Prof.Dr.Hab. Silviu Miloiu is a professor of history of international relations. His research focuses on the history of Romanian foreign policy in the 20th and 21st centuries, Baltic and Nordic history, Romania’s relations with the Baltic and Nordic countries, and the history of minorities in East Central and South Eastern Europe. He has been leading international research projects with publications such as Europe viewed from the margins: a Central European perspective of the 19th and 20th centuries and Utopia versus realism in Romania’s foreign policy. He has authored numerous monographs, chapters, articles, volumes of documents published in Romania, Baltic and Nordic countries and elsewhere in Europe or the United States of America.
He is the president of the Romanian Association of Baltic and Nordic Studies and editor-in-chief of the Romanian Journal for Baltic and Nordic Studies, founder and editor of the scientific offspring of „Grigore Gafencu” Research Center entitled Valahian Journal of Historical Studies. Since 2010 he summons in Romania a yearly conference of Baltic and Nordic Studies, the largest such event in South Eastern Europe. He has been awarded medals and awards in Latvia and Lithuania for his excellence in Baltic studies.
Prof.Hab. Silviu Miloiu is a Ph.D. supervisor in history who has chaired over six successfully defended dissertations and currently supervises ten Ph.D. works in progress. Some of the Ph.D. thesis have been jointly defended or are in the process of writing with highly respected universities such as Université Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3 or the University of Stuttgart.
